A ref digest photo drawn by C.F. Payne depicts a small African American boy wearing a savants attire reading a book while waiting at a crosswalk that reads Dont Walk. Behind him is a group of people belong to an older generation consisting of both men and women dressing in both casual and business formal attire. With their backs turned to the boy, they argon peering into the glass display window of an electronics store that has an American fall mounted on the top left hand side. This cast serves not only to point out the negative consequences of American societys growing obsession with technological advances and the battles go about between engineering science with other academic subjects and schools, but overly the potential technology can have on up(p) schools and the irony of the absence of that effort especially in deprived schools.
On the surface, this drawing wants to illustrate the greater value American society places on science and technology over liberal arts and humanities. As a student, I recognized this immediately as a depiction of societys favoring of science and technology over art and literature especially in schools.



The demographics of the collection facing the electronics store belongs to an older generation in equivalence to the young boy who appears to be around 10 long time old. The crowd represents the group in society that dictates societal rules and values, for example, taxpayers or politicians. The boy, on the other hand, represents those that are dependent on the funding, in this case, children and schools. In the drawing, a young boy holding a book stands alone while the rest of the people in this drawing are facing in the other direction at electronic devices.
