As I am writing about a past event, a participant observation will non be possible. To aid my study, I shall do a media analysis of tabloids, journals and fanzines. I will also conduct an analysis of the music, lyrics and artwork of punk. By breaking punk down into its most basic elements, I hope that its origins will become clearer.
I will proceed by examining some of the key scholarly works on punk, and assess which methodological approaches authors have adopted in order to broach the subject.
