How Poerty, Homelessness, and Hunger hit Education

The growing concern for roofless youth in America is a growing concern. Research has shown that family breakdown, abuse and degraded family relationships are mostly the reasons for youth homelessness.
In addition the take of homelessness appears to frequently have adverse implications and to affect neurocognitive development and academics, as well as mental and physical health. Substance use, sexually transmitted infections, and psychiatric disorders are particularly prevalent in this population, (Ednin, Gamin, Hunter, and Karnik).
However most of the problems with homelessness can be brief hardly severe stress and lack of resources that comes with homelessness may have long-run effects on a childs mightiness to function and develop. The lack of health business services are some serious concerns because either parents are unaware of the resources or the schools are more concerned with academics instead of health cares.




To help with homelessness, The McKinney Acts Education of Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) program was set up by Congress in 1987 in response to reports that over 50% of homeless children were not attending school regularly. The EHCY broadcast provides formula grants to state educational agencies to ensure that all homeless children and youth have equal access to the same free, leave education, including preschool education, provided to other children and youth,
(Phillips, Wodatch, Kelliher).
The government allows the states educational agencies to fetch funds and to amend rights, practices, policies and regulations that may stop the enrollment, attendance and victory of a homeless student in the school system.
