the apostle bum (Buttrick, 60). Justin Martyr, who was mentored by John, claimed that John the
apostle was the author (Book of Revelation).



Modern scholars prefer to compute of John as John
Mark, John the Elder, or just a random writer using the identity of John to overhear credibility
(Buttrick, 60). John was a common name during the age of Jesus, so it is nearly impossible to be
certain who this John really is.
Just as there is controversy over who wrote the Book of Revelation there is also
controversy over when the book was written. Some of the different dates that have been
suggested by writers of the fourth part century are during the reign of Claudius, Nero, and Trajan
