Babe pathos and Hank Aaron are the bigger names, only none possessed the talents and drive of Lou Gehrig. Gehrig was one of the best baseball players of all time, but it was his integrity and class that shed him a true American hero. He didnt have an ego, he wasnt arrogant, and I believe that he would be out of place in sports of today. Gehrig faced every challenge with integrity, which isnt the case for some athletes of today. While he was a giant in the fabled Yankees era of the 1920s and 30s, his tragic, early death made him a legend. Gehrig was born on June 19, 1903 in New York City. He was the son of German immigrants and the only one of four children to survive. His both sisters and brother all died before they were two. His mother worked hard to make ends meet and she wanted Lou to follow in the footsteps of his uncle and become an engineer. So after high school, he attended capital of South Carolina University on a football scholarship, to study engineering but he would make his impact on the baseball field.
